Playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda, best known for the Broadway sensation Hamilton, first wowed audiences in 2008 with his musical In The Heights. Through hip-hop, salsa and Broadway ballads, the show that tells a universal story of a vibrant neighborhood in New York’s Washington Heights is now at the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport through May 6.
Spiro Marcos plays the lead character Usnavi, the owner of a small bodega. Chiara Trentalange plays his love interest, Vanessa, who dreams of moving away from the barrio. Nina Rosario, played by Cherry Torres, is the first in her family to go to college, but has a hard time living up to the expectations her family and neighbors put on her. Other relatable characters fill out the ensemble of this joyful and uplifting musical.
