Rothy’s changes the shoe game
The everyday ballet flat has finally received a green makeover. Made from recycled water bottles and eco-friendly fibers, Rothy’s shoes are not only fashionable, they are sustainable for a better future. “We began to see a casualization in the market, with the rise of the flip-flop and sneaker. We spent four years creating an alternative, versatile shoe—with the ease of a sneaker but polish of a feminine flat,” said Martin. “We wanted to create a shoe that was low-waste, using low-impact materials and hand assemble for high quality and durability. Each environmentally friendly shoe is constructed of soft fibers made from recycled water bottles using a 3D knitting process.”
Martin added that the fibers Rothy’s use are developed with a moisture wicking property, which helps they dry very quickly. The 3D knitting with the breathable, soft fibers create a seamless shoe so that there is no friction on the foot.
Insanely soft, comfortable and durable, the shoe is available in the Flat ($125), Point ($145) and newly added Loafer in more than 40 different color and pattern options like aqua, berry, taupe, camo and leopard.
“Our third silhouette, the Loafer, just launched,” said Martin of the style that was tested during the holiday season and was met with huge success. “We spent six-and-a-half months doing fit tests and seven rounds of sampling before introducing this style. There’s more to come but we will always take the same slow and thoughtful approach before introducing a new style.”
As someone who goes through a classic black flat several times a year, it is well worth the investment, Plus, Rothy’s are machine washable. Just throw them in cold water (gentle cycle, gentle detergent) and you’re good to go.
