Local Businessman Assists NBC’s George To The Rescue

Showcase Kitchens assembles pros for good will renovation

After his participation in a previous renovation for the popular NBC show, George to the Rescue, the show’s producers knew John Starck, owner of Showcase Kitchens, was the obvious choice to assist with a Merrick project. The show’s premise consists of host George Oliphant and a crew of contractors and designers transforming the homes of deserving people—from the issue-laden ‘before’ to the stunning ‘after’ reveal. When the call came, Starck wasted no time in assembling a team of Long Island home improvement and design professionals to accomplish a small miracle for a man and his family.

A tragic, life-changing spinal cord injury due to a car accident in 2004 left Merrick resident Adam H. wheelchair bound. After years of rehabilitation and with a truly inspiring positive attitude, Adam persevered as an adjunct professor at a local college as well as maintaining an active lifestyle despite his disability. He even met, romanced and married his lovely and loving wife and had a son, now three-years-old. However, the limitations of his own home prevented him from being able to perform event the most basic activities of daily living independently. The bathroom and galley kitchen were not wheelchair accessible, necessitating sacrifices and a great deal of assistance.

In came the rescue team spearheaded by Starck, with two Showcase Kitchens locations on Long Island (Manhasset and Massapequa). Their mission, to give Adam back true independence in his home, was done with beautiful results. Donating their time, expertise and materials were: John Starck of Showcase Kitchens, Marlaina Teich, Marlaina Teich Designs, Eddie Dantes, AGD Construction, Pat Vardaro, FMI Marble, Donato Valenzano, Donato Tile & Marble, Anthony Starck, Luxury Appliance Wholesalers, Maria Sergio, Showcase Baths…and of course, the show’s charismatic host, Oliphant of NBC’s George to the Rescue.

Be inspired by the work of Starck and other local heroes when the episode airs on Saturday, April 21, at 9:30 a.m. and again at 7 p.m., on NBC Channel 4.
