The Sands Point Preserve Conservancy’s Butterfly Ball takes flight on Saturday, April 28, at 7 p.m. in historic Hempstead House. The event honors the newly elected Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.
Celebrated Long Island chefs and North Fork wineries come together for the first time to create a spectacular feast in support of proposed enhancements to the preserve’s magnificent outdoor environment. Projects in development include a demonstration organic vegetable garden and fruit orchard, a playground and fitness course, dog run, among others, all useful and enriching new services for families and individuals in the community.
The evening showcases Long Island’s top culinary visionaries whose work reflects the growing farm-to-table movement, using organic, sustainable resources. The Butterfly Ball’s Culinary Director Nicola Zangi gathered a unique ensemble of guest chefs who will prepare special dishes for the event: Guy Reuges – Sandbar, Three Village Inn, and Lessing’s; Tom Schaudel – Jewel, Be-Ju, Alure, and aMano; Michael Meehan – Radio Radio; Ricky Passerelli – Bobby Van’s Steakhouses; Maurizio Venditelli – Il Bacco; Rosario Safina – Da Rosario Organic Truffles; Judy Racz – Dino Vlachich and Full House Organics; Leisa Dent – LL Dent Southern Food and Catering; Michael Fallon – Macayla Michael Desserts; Wayne Cafariella – Kings Coast Coffee; and Philip Stone Caterer.
Five North Fork wineries will provide perfect pairings for the chefs’ dishes: Paumanok Vineyards, McCalls Wines, Raphael Winery, Woolfer Estate, and Bedell Cellars.
Guests will spend the evening enjoying extraordinary foods, fine wine, and craft beer, beginning with the cocktail hour and first course in Hempstead House’s grand rooms, then dinner in the Rose Garden tent, followed by dessert and dancing inside the mansion. Dress is butterfly-chic.
Sand Point Preserve’s Executive Director Beth Horn is excited about the upcoming even“We have a great live band with horns, etc. to play Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Sting, U2; and an acoustic Latin guitar due during the VIP cocktail hour, DJ Sal during the dinner.” Tickets, sponsorship packages, and journal ads are available on www.SandsPointPreserve.org and 516-304-5076
