The Manhasset-Port Washington Kiwanis Club served up pancakes, bacon and sausage along with coffee, tea and orange juice in the Schreiber High School cafeteria on April 15, with help from the Schreiber High School Key Club. Key club members stood outside on Port Boulevard with signs directing cars to the annual breakfast event.
New York State Senator Elaine Phillips was behind the stove, flipping pancakes and serving up dishes to hungry patrons as Town Clerk Wayne Wink set up the juice bar. Also on hand were Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Councilwomen Anna Kaplan and Dina De Giorgio and Assemblyman Tony D’Urso.
“We had a fantastic showing of support from Kiwanis and Schreiber High School kitchen staff and volunteers,” said Kiwanis North Lt. Governor-elect Jeffrey Stone. “Next year, we will be introducing some new things to change things up.”
All proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Club, a nonprofit organization that seeks to help children and families wherever the need presents itself, such as scholarships for local graduating seniors, summer camps for needy children, drug and alcohol awareness programs and anti-bullying programs. The club supports and volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House, the HKNC and the Salvation Army.
