Manhasset Secondary School French students continued their outstanding tradition of excellence on the 2018 National French Exam. The Manhasset district has been a leading school on Long Island for the number of students whose scores rank nationally.
“Once again, our students have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement on this challenging assessment at both the local and national level. Their success is a testament to their hard work and commitment to the study of French,” said the Coordinator for World Languages and ENL Laurie Marshall-Lauria. “The staff’s hope is that Manhasset students continue to improve their ability to communicate with confidence in French and develop a foundation for intercultural awareness and international understanding.”
According to Lisa Narug, the National Director, Le Grand Concours is a competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) whereby students are evaluated for their written and listening comprehension skills in French. Students in all 50 states competed in the 2018 event.
AATF President Catherine Danielou indicated that “French students who rank nationally in Le Grand Concours demonstrate integrative cultural competence and language skills. Their French teachers work hard to produce responsible world citizens with multilingual capabilities. Le Grand Concours participants and winners all embrace an appreciation for other cultures and value the study of French.”
Manhasset French teachers, Diane Bollen and Arlette Siffer, administered the exam for each of their classes with a combined National Ranking total of one platinum, nine gold, 26 silver, 16 bronze and 27 honorable mention awards for their students. The AAFT and the Manhasset World Languages Department congratulate all the participants. Félicitations et Bravo!
