The seventh annual Lauri Strauss Leukemia Foundation (LSLF) Bike Tour/Walk for Research will be held on Sunday, May 20. This great spring event that raises money for leukemia research starts at the train station in Port Washington at 8:30 a.m.
Bikers signing up online in advance choose whether to ride a 3.3, 14 or 21-mile route. The short route enables young bikers to participate with their families. The longer routes take the bikers along scenic routes in Port and surrounding towns. There will be refreshments and raffles. Free T-shirts and a raffle ticket will be given to each participant.
For the non-biker, the Bay Walk route is a delightful way to exercise while enjoying the beauty and diversity of Port Washington. The walking route goes down Main Street toward Manhasset Bay and along its shore for a pleasant experience for a very good cause.
LSLF honors the memory of a spirited delightful young woman who was stricken too early in life by leukemia. A Schreiber High School graduate, Lauri Strauss was stricken at age 24 and lost her battle with leukemia just seven months later. Her family and friends started the Foundation as a way for her energy to live on. LSLF’s mission is to find cause and cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin disease, multiple myeloma and allied cancers. A marrow drive will be conducted during the event – all it takes is a cheek swab to join the registry.
