Love Is All Around At The Children’s Museum June 5-9

A popular fairytale gets a musical adaptation that inspires environmental activism in young theater goers.

Love is on the agenda at Long Island Children’s Museum as the programming calendar this week celebrates family love during Pride Month, love of nature in the LICM Theater and love of the summer season.

GRUFF! The Musical (Final week)

Tuesday, June 5-Friday, June 8 at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.; Saturday, June 9 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Gruff! is an interactive, family-friendly and puppet-filled musical about saving the world from environmental disaster. In this reinvention of The Three Billy Goats Gruff fairy tale, Audiences learn the importance of environmental stewardship. Rebelling against the rules, a young goat named Gruf discovers the magically hidden Valley of the Trolls, the only surviving oasis of natural plant and animal life left on earth. Ages: 4 and up. Fee: $9 with museum admission ($7 LICM members), $12 theater only.

Summer Garden Stones

Tuesday, June 5-Friday, June 8; 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Join us this June and decorate your own colorful, garden stone to celebrate the arrival of summer Ages: 3 and up. Free with museum admission.

Music and Movement

Wednesday, June 6 from 11:30 a.m. to noon

Enjoy creative movement exercises and interactive sing-alongs that get little bodies moving to the rhythm. Ages: 5 and under. Fee: $4 with museum admission ($3 LICM members).

Kids in the Kitchen

Friday, June 8 from 11:30 a.m. to noon

Little chefs use real cooking tools (with some help from adults) to make easy, yummy, kid-friendly snacks from start to finish. As they make their treat, kids gain experience measuring ingredients, following directions and building their vocabulary. This week is French Toast Muffins. Ages: 3-5. Fee: $5 with museum admission ($4 LICM members).

Love is Love

Saturday, June 9 at 2 and 3 p.m.

The LICM welcomes families to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month at the museum. Read The Great Big Book of Families and discuss the uniqueness of each family and the common link that unites all…love. Praised for its celebration of contemporary family life, visitors will be able to see themselves and their neighbors in the pages of this book. After the story, children will create a family portrait that will be displayed during Pride Month at the museum.

Ages: 3 and up. Free with museum admission but ticket required; ask at front desk for availability.

The Long Island Children’s Museum is located at 11 Davis Ave., Garden City,. For the safety of visitors, Adults are not permitted in the museum without children; museum visitors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
