1

This amazing estate called The Cliffs, one of the earliest of its kind on the Gold Coast, is listed for sale at 1026 West Shore Rd. in the Village of Mill Neck.

Built in 1856, this Gothic Revival mansion was designed by Henry Harrison, one of the famed architects behind The Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. The house, which is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, was built for James Beekman, a prominent politician at the time.

“It is a two-story, rectangular wood-framed dwelling with a steeply sloped, cross-gabled roof,” according to a Wikipedia page for the 16-acre property. “It features hipped roof dormers, a relatively simple one story verandah, and is situated on a flat plateau atop a rocky outcropping. Also on the property are a superintendent’s cottage, stable, carriage house, brick greenhouse, potting house, and the Spring Lake archaeological site.”

The fully restored six-bedroom house with five bathrooms, three half bathrooms and 10,000-square-feet of living space overlooks Oyster Bay Harbor. The main house comes equipped with two eat-in kitchens, a formal dining room, office, gym, and fully finished basement that includes a wine cellar. Outside it has an in-ground pool, tennis courts and five-car detached garage.

The property is located about a mile from downtown Oyster Bay, the Oyster Bay Long Island Rail Road station and about five miles from the Long Island Expressway. It is located in the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District.

The asking price is $16,000,000, not including the $100,000 in annual property taxes.

The real estate agent listed for the property is Clifford Packingham of EVLC Realty LLC. He can be reached at 516-277-2371.2
