The Women’s Club of Strathmore-Vanderbilt Country Club held its 2018 Rose Luncheon on Friday, June 1. The Rose Luncheon—celebrating flowers and fellowship—is an annual Women’s Club tradition now in its 79th year. It is always an eagerly anticipated and well-attended event among the club’s members and friends. This year was no exception.
With help from her luncheon committee Christina Potter, Tone Burrows, Melissa Chiovitti and Daria Connolly, the Womens Club President Christina Pullo welcomed luncheon guests before introducing the afternoon’s entertainment, which was provided by nuBest. Guests were able to try eyelashes and enjoy a free make-up session while sipping a Kir Royale.
Vendors galore from Club & Country, Summer House, Designer Sunglasses, Simply Splendid and Stella & Dot were the draw of each guest. With fabulous raffle prizes and a tutorial by make-up artist Charles Douglass, who has done the lashes of Lady Gaga, Lyndsay Lohan, Ivanka Trump, Linda Carter and Brooke Shields, the luncheon was a pure delight.
The tradition of the Rose Luncheon has been carried on for generations, so it was wonderful for the current president to introduce her mother who was a former president of Strathmore-Vanderbilts Women Club and continued the tradition.
“The event is a time honored club tradition,” said Pullo, who grew up in Strathmore-Vanderbilt.”It was first explained to me as a gathering of friends to share the roses that grew in their garden. While the rose tradition continues today, the event hs evolved over the years to also celebrate the special women in our community that hep make our club the unique place that it is in Manhasset.”
The judging of the roses was done by Adele Kuczmarski with Celeste Sforza and Rosa Troia having the winning blooms.
