Brendon Urie was, as expected, a force to be reckoned with as he belted out hit songs both old and new at NCYB Live on Friday, July 20, as part of Panic! At The Disco’s Pray For The Wicked Tour.
The show opened with the first track off PATD’s latest album, for which the tour is named after, “(F**k A) Silver Lining,” and Urie popped up from below the stage to deliver energy that electrified the entire coliseum. The night was a promising one, as the 27-song setlist was high-energy from start to finish, save for the ballad “Dying in LA,” which Urie played on a piano that floated over the crowd.
Each song opened with a few seconds of the inconceivably-talented band playing some instrumentals before Urie dove into vocals that were larger than life. High notes rivaling those of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston sent fans into a frenzy of screams and admiration as Urie delivered vocals that matched, if not surpassed, how he sounds on record. Pyro elements and graphics on screen completed each performance.
Also from Pray For The Wicked, PATD performed “Ready To Go,” “Hey Look Ma, I Made It,” “Dancing’s Not a Crime,” “High Hopes,” “King of the Clouds” and “Say Amen, (Saturday Night).” From their 2016 album, Death of a Bachelor, the band played “Dont threaten me with a good time,” “LA devotee,” “Hallelujah,” “Golden Days,” “Death of a Bachelor,” “Crazy=Genius,” “Emperor’s New Clothes” and “Victorious.” Songs from their 2013 record, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die, like “Casual Affair,” “Vegas Lights,” “This is Gospel,” “Girls/Girls/Boys,” “Nicotine” and “Miss Jackson,” also made an appearance.
Classics like “The Ballad of Mona Lisa,” “Nine in the Afternoon” and, of course, “I Write Sins, Not Tragedies” were sprinkled in throughout the show, garnering massive sing-a-longs among the crowd. Urie delivered an impeccable cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and shocked the crowd when he brought out the legendary Cyndi Lauper during PATD’s cover of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.”
To quote their song, “Hallelujah,” seeing Panic! At The Disco live is sure to be “a night you’ll never forget.” Kudos must go to Urie and the band for giving their all the entire night, putting on a show that was unforgettable.
