Adoptions are free at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter until Sept. 3, and during the month of August, dogs over the age of 6 months are free at Bideawee!

As sweet as an ice cream sundae is Brynn, a 7-year-old Pit mix who is looking for a forever home. She’s a very affectionate girl who loves to be with people and thrives on getting attention. Brynn is a very relaxed dog who enjoys going to walks and then will spend the rest of her day laying at your feet. Her favorite thing (other than food) is soft squeaky toys.
Fiona is an affectionate 7-year-old Lab mix who was rescued from Puerto Rico. She loves people and will do anything to get belly rubs. Fiona has traveled a long way for a second chance at love and would be a great dog to hang out with. She is a couch potato who’s favorite thing is snuggling at your side.
Pepe is a handsome black and white senior kitty who arrived at Little Shelter declawed. He loves finding a sunny shelf to curl up on and take naps. Pepe enjoys getting affection and will seek out his favorite staff members for chin scratches.

Meet Ivy, the sweet young adult cat who has a lot of playful energy. Ivy loves people and is always trying to get visitors attention. She would be a great cat in any type of household and has and outgoing personality.
Bubba is a handsome adult tuxedo who loves getting affection. He will hold onto your hand with his paws to make you pet him longer and will follow you where ever you go! Bubba is still young and likes to play with toys and chase a laser pointer. He is a cat who will keep you laughing with his silly antics and will cuddle with you at night.

At just 4 years old, Vader has quite a story. To make a long story short, Vader arrived at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter after a short stint at a New York City shelter. Vader is very friendly, playful with toys, and was described by his previous owner as a bit lazy, affectionate and playful. Vader is currently looking for a solo dog home.
At 7 years old, Prince is desperate for his own family and home. He is a great dog who is up to date on all of his shots, is described as fun and loving, and is seeking someone who plans on loving and respecting him forever. He will make a great companion, and one that will be so, so appreciative! Can you give Prince the castle he so deserves?

Ruby was found as a stray and brought to the shelter where she patiently waited for her family to come. After waiting for some time, she is now ready to welcome a new family into her life. Ruby is a female Pit Bull. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all her vaccinations. She needs a family that is willing to make her their only pet because she doesn’t get along with other animals.
Sugar is an 8-year-old Pit Bull that was surrendered by her owner as he could no longer care for her. Sugar is a very nice dog that would love to be in a home all her own once again. Sugar is up to date on all vaccines, spayed and micro chipped. If you have another dog at home, the shelter requires a meet and greet. Sugar hopes to see you soon.

This gorgeous and happy-go-lucky 8-year-old is named Nicholas. Isn’t he just a sight to behold? Donning a fantastic coat, two-tone eyes, and a comical grin, it’s hard not to be enchanted by him!
Being an incredibly jubilant and free-spirited dog, he is seeking an equally active, adventurous, and dog-savvy home to call his own. Nicholas needs a world full of enrichment, exercise, exploration, and endless learning, and so a home with older children is best for him. In return, you can expect a lifetime of laughs, love, and loyalty from this handsome guy!

Luke here is a 3-year-old large mixed-breed who came to Bideawee in late September 2017 from Alabama. Luke has that classic mixed-breed look with a soft fur coat, white patches on his chest and nose and a full and fluffy tail. However, Luke has a special characteristic that sets him apart from his canine companions – Luke only has three legs!
But this difference doesn’t slow him down at all. He’s still active and enjoys his walks outside. In fact, being outside is one of his favorite activities. He loves the fresh air and he’ll start to really relax after a long walk or an energetic game of fetch.
Luke is very sweet with people and enjoys snuggling, cuddling and all the better doggy-human pastimes. Luke is also friendly with strangers and will happily say “hi” when they inevitably ask if they can pet him. Luke is pickier about his doggy friends though, so he should go home without another pet.
Because Luke is so exuberant when he likes someone, we recommend him going home without young children. This handsome guy is 44 pounds and full grown. During August, Luke’s adoption fee will be waived. Check out Luke’s webpage.
Jungle is an entertaining adult kitty of 3 years who weighs 13 pounds. This adorable tuxedo feline is very people-oriented and loves to play! However, he is very active and enthusiastic, to the point where he can get a little carried away at times, playing too roughly.
Therefore, he is being recommended for a gentle and experienced family. This cutie might be able to live with another active kitty, but this should be considered on a case-by-case basis. His new household would need to provide a lot of space for Jungle as well as plenty of healthy outlets for his energy and curiosity. Check out Jungle’s webpage.
Beanie is a sweet and elegant young lady who is enchanting to behold! Donning a gorgeous obsidian coat, and brilliant chartreuse eyes, Beanie is gorgeous from head to tail. Filled with a love for people and an appreciation for life, Beanie’s heart is just spilling over.
