Manhasset residents should mark their calendars for Nov. 3-13 for the 8th Annual Gold Coast International Festival comes to Long Island. With more than 100 feature-length and short films to view, the mass appeal is endless.
The Festival will once again be in venues across the North Shore, including Great Neck; Port Washington; Manhasset; Roslyn; Huntington, as well as in new venues in Glen Cove, Plainview and others.
Last year’s Gold Coast International Film Festival broke all previous records while presenting films from over 18 countries and featuring dozens of visiting filmmakers and special guests for unforgettable post-screening Q&As.
2017 highlights included sold-out screenings of multiple award-winning films including the Oscar winner Darkest Hour, and The Insult, nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Additional standing-room-only screenings included:
- Dare to Be Different, about the legendary Long Island radio station WLIR 92.7. The festival sold out three screenings of this film with special appearances at each screening by Director Ellen Goldfarb, Executive Producer and WLIR Program Director Denis McNamara and many of the former WLIR DJs.
- Ben-Gurion, Epilogue, featuring an unforgettable Q&A with Ben-Gurion’s grandson, Alon Ben-Gurion;
- Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story, a fascinating documentary about the sultry screen legend and brilliant scientist, with a Q&A with Emmy Award-winning Director Alexandra Dean;
- A 60th-anniversary screening of Pal Joey, featuring a Q&A with Frank Sinatra’s granddaughter, A.J. Lambert; and
- Underfire: The Untold Story of Pfc. Tony Vaccaro, featuring a post-screening Q&A with Mr. Vaccaro and the film’s director, Max Lewkowicz plus an exhibit of Vaccaro’s acclaimed wartime and celebrity photography
Thousands of people from over 175 different zip codes throughout the tri-state area attended the 2017 Gold Coast International Film Festival, including hundreds of children and adults who attended free community screenings of our highly-regarded short film programs at Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington and the Port Washington and Great Neck libraries. Dozens of veterans once again attended our festival films for free this year courtesy of a grant from GEICO.
