Northwell Health and the Americana Manhasset raised more than $900,000 for women’s health at the 26th annual Katz Institute for Women’s Health Luncheon and Fashion Show featuring four designers: alice + olivia, Bandier, Theory and Zimmermann.
Ten patients of event honoree Karen Kostroff, MD, chief of breast surgery at Northwell Health Cancer Institute, took the stage at Old Westbury Gardens to share their personal stories of how breast cancer has impacted their lives and their gratitude for the exceptional care they received.
“Karen Kostroff is an extraordinary breast cancer surgeon who has dedicated herself to our patients for more than 26 years and we are proud to have her as Northwell’s first physician honoree,” said Stacey Rosen, MD, Northwell Health’s vice president of women’s health. “The outpouring of patients in the room as well as on stage speaks to not only her clinical excellence but the compassionate care she provides.”
Gina Samet was seven months pregnant with her son when she got the shocking diagnosis of invasive breast cancer. Kostroff laid out a treatment plan and timeline for Samet and her baby. Her son Luke was delivered successfully at Katz Women’s Hospital at LIJ Medical Center. Today, Samet is a 35-year-old breast cancer survivor with a happy 4-year-old.
The luncheon and fashion show supports critical women’s health programming at the Katz Institute for Women’s Health and was presented by the Partners Council for Women’s Health. The event was cohosted by Rosanna Scotto, co-anchor of Fox 5’s Good Day New York, and Neil Tanna, MD, associate director of plastic surgery at Northwell Health. This year’s funds will also support the development of a new Women’s Imaging Center at the Center for Advanced Medicine in New Hyde Park.
“Our Imaging Center is going to be something so different and special, and our goal is not just to provide the most advanced imaging tests but also to have the best patient experience that anyone offers in our area,” said Nina Vincoff, MD, chief of breast imaging at Northwell Health. “Donor support is critical for us to be able to achieve our mission and it would not be possible for us to do the things we do every day for our community without the people who come out and support our events and support our health system.”
To date, the Katz Institute Luncheon and Fashion show has raised more than $10.2 million in support of women’s health. A luncheon sponsor since its inception, Americana Manhasset is integral to the success of the event. Visit the Northwell Health Foundation website for additional information.
