Residents Celebrate Christmas At Village’s Tree Lighting

New Hyde Park residents gathered this past Saturday at Marcus Christ Community Center and Village Hall for the village’s annual Christmas tree lighting, which was sponsored by the New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce and New Hyde Park Lions Club.

Tree ABefore lighting the tree, kids and their parents enjoyed a magic show inside the community center with Magic of Amore, who did various tricks and illusions that wowed the audience. After the show, kids ran outside and gathered around the village square where members of the New Hyde Park Memorial High School Marching Band and the high school’s Chamber singers performed an array of Christmas favorites.

Providing pamphlets with lyrics to some of the most popular Christmas tunes, residents sang along to “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Joy to the World,” “O Christmas Tree” and “Jingle Bells.”

Tree BAs dusk began to fall and with sirens blaring down Jericho Turnpike, the moment all the kids were waiting for had arrived. Escorted by the New Hyde Park Fire Department on their Engine 1 fire truck, Santa Claus came to town. Kids dashed across the village hall lawn to greet Ol’ St. Nick, who hugged them and posed for photos.

Just before lighting the tree, New Hyde Park Mayor Lawrence Montreuil thanked residents for coming out and supporting the village. Along with deputy mayor Donna Squicciarino, village trustees Richard Coppola, Richard Pallisco and Rainer Burger, Nassau County legislator Richard Nicolello and Santa Claus, Montreuil lit the Christmas tree to thunderous applause.
