With the advent of the new year and Anna Kaplan resigning from the Town of North Hempstead Council to become New York State Senator for the seventh district, the Town of North Hempstead has finally announced a replacement to the vacancy left by Kaplan’s departure. Veronica Lurvey, a grass roots community advocate from Great Neck is now the most recent member of the North Hempstead Town Council after being unanimously approved by Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Council members.
Lurvey is co-founder and co-president of North Shore Action, was selected to represent the seat formerly held by now-State Senator Anna Kaplan. Council Member Lurvey will fill the council seat until the end of the year and will be required to run for the four-year position in the November 2019 general election. The area she represents include the unicorporated area of Manhasset and Great Neck.

Council Member Lurvey has a background serving the community and as an attorney with over 17 years of experience practicing law. Most recently, she was co-founder and co-president of North Short Action where she guided the community action group’s guiding vision and lead teams in a variety of pro-active bi-partisan community events. She also served as vice president of her temple, Temple Israel of Great Neck and was a member of the Village of Kensington Zoning Board of Appeals. Following her undergraduate study at the University of Chicago, she went on to earn her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and most recently served as counsel at Skadden, Arps, Meagher, Flom, LLP.
Lurvey, a native of the North Shore, is a daughter of immigrants who chose to raise her family in Great Neck where she lives with her husband Jonathan and their two teenage sons
