A winter storm may bring up to four inches of snow to parts of Long Island on Tuesday, making for slippery road conditions during the morning commute, forecasters said.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Nassau and Suffolk counties from 5 a.m. Tuesday through midnight.
“Mixed precipitation expected,” Upton-based NWS meteorologists said in the advisory. “Total snow and sleet accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of a few hundredths to one tenth of an inch expected. Highest snow, sleet and ice accumulations away from south coasts. Winds gusting 20 to 30 mph this morning into early evening.”
The storm is expected to cause difficult travel conditions across the tri-state area.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause slippery roads and limited visibilities. NWS urged drivers to use caution while driving.
“Precipitation will most likely be in the form of rain by the end of the evening commute, which may be impacted as well,” NWS added.
