The American Kennel Club and EEM will host the first-ever 2019 AKC Agility Premier Cup presented by EEM to be held in conjunction with the Longines Masters of New York. The event will take place on Thursday, April 25, from 4 to 9 p.m. at NYCB Live at the newly renovated Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
This family-friendly event marks the first time AKC Agility will be held at an Equestrian event, demonstrating the amazing abilities of both horses and dogs in their respective sports. The top 60 canine agility competitors and their handlers from around the country will be invited to compete at the Invitational. Twelve dogs will be entered at each jump height (8″, 12″, 16″, 20″, and 24″) for $10,000 in cash prizes. The winner will also have their name engraved on the AKC Agility Premier Cup trophy that will be displayed in perpetuity in the AKC New York Headquarters.
“Agility is an exciting event that is fun to watch for all ages,” said Carrie DeYoung, director of agility for the American Kennel Club. “There are so many fascinating similarities between the dog and equine sports. Through this event, the public can learn about agility and cheer on the dogs while learning how it relates to equestrian competitions.”
The Longines Masters of New York is a first-class sporting event that attracts the world’s top-ranked equestrian athletes and a large international audience of equestrian enthusiasts. In addition, the event attracts spectators from the arts, fashion, business, high-society as well as local families and those passionate about animals. The grand finale of the international series after Paris and Hong Kong, the Longines Masters of New York offers unparalleled sport, live music, luxury shopping, refined dining and more. Located at the newly renovated NYCB Live Nassau Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum in the heart of New York horse country, it’s a must-attend event.
“We are honored to partner with the AKC for the Agility Premier Cup. The incredible bond between a dog and its trainer is very similar to the relationship between a horse and a rider that make our sport so unique. We felt partnering with the AKC for an agility competition was a natural fit,” said Christophe Ameeuw, CEO of EEM and founder of the Longines Masters Paris-Hong Kong-New York series.
