The Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Contractors of Long Island (PHCC-LI) will hold its annual membership drive and trade show event on Wednesday, May 15, from 2:30 to 8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Plainview, 215 Sunnyside Blvd, Plainview, NY 11803.
The trade show is open to both PHCC-LI members and non-members. Professionals in the plumbing, heating and cooling industry can attend a workshop presented by Al Schimanski on code updates, interact with various vendors, meet with fellow professionals and gain insight about the important work that PHCC-LI does for professionals in the industry. Immediately following the trade show, attendees can enjoy dinner, cocktails and raffles!
In response to the high demand for, yet shortage of, licensed plumbers on Long Island, PHCC-LI is encouraging career-seeking young people to attend its new interactive demonstration program. This free informational and interactive session, taking place from 3 to 5 p.m., is designed to inspire young people to consider careers in the plumbing and HVAC trades.
“The PHCC-LI trade show is an important event where our members can gain critical information and education about our industry as well as meet with suppliers face-to-face. We are embarking on an initiative to encourage young people to enter the trades. PHCC-LI fully supports the formation of the Long Island Apprenticeship & Workforce Development Task Force recently announced by Congressman Tom Suozzi, along with business leaders, labor, local community colleges and workforce development boards. We have been collaborating with Congressman Suozzi on this workforce issue and are very encouraged with the response of other elected officials as well,” said Don Conway, president of PHCC-LI.
“We want individuals looking to the future to ask themselves ‘Is a career in plumbing right for me?’ Here on Long Island our young people need to understand that they can make a good living without a college degree through career paths in plumbing. Plumbing is a trade that allows a person to learn while they earn and have zero student loans or student loan debt,” said Joseph Cornetta, immediate past president of PHCC-LI.
In addition to the trade show’s career focus, HVAC and plumbing business owners as well as technicians attending the show will be updated on plumbing, mechanical and gas codes. Those who join PHCC-LI will get a 50 percent discount on their membership dues. The trade show is open to all professionals in the trade industries, with 18 vendors in attendance showcasing various aspects of the industry.
Registration for the PHCC-LI Trade Show on May 15 is free; however, preregistration is required. For more information and to register, visit phccli.org.
