The Regency Glen Cove Readies New Facility For Memory Loss Patients

SafeHarbor BFor those who deal with mental health issues and memory loss, life is a little more challenging. In honor of Mental Health Month, the Regency Glen Cove is highlighting Safe Harbor, a self-contained neighborhood within The Regency dedicated to seniors with forms of memory loss.

“We offer all the amenities of assisted living enhanced with specialized programming and support,” said executive director Beth Evans.

letter A redIt is extremely important. Our compassionate, professional staff takes the time to really get to know and understand every one of our residents—who they were and who they are today—to create an atmosphere of familiarity and consistency. We cultivate ongoing communication with family members and encourage active involvement in their loved one’s care. We create a partnership of care that envelope our residents in affectionate warmth making them feel at home.

letter A redOur staff is specially trained in caring for those with dementia, including Certified Dementia Practitioners, and each resident will have a personalized care plan including 24-hour medication management if needed. Residents can choose from private or shared studio apartments that include three delicious, nutritious meals, daily housekeeping and linen service. Safe Harbor has a dedicated dining room, lounges and sunroom and our secure outdoor patio for our residents to enjoy.

We’ve created spaces such as our secure, outdoor patio so our residents can soak up the fresh air and sunshine. We offer stimulating and therapeutic recreation activities that promote self-worth, dignity and independence. Every day is well-structured to maximize the abilities of each resident and give them the chance to be successful. Our rich programming includes sensory activities, failure-free pastimes, reminiscence therapy, intergenerational opportunities and social interaction with peers. We have stations throughout the neighborhood to engage our residents with tactile activities such as gardening and beauty care.
