One hundred and forty one members of the Levittown Public Schools’ Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center’s Class of 2019 received their diplomas during the school’s commencement ceremony at Wisdom Lane Middle School on June 10. Proud loved ones, staff, board members and central and building administrators showed their support during the momentous occasion.
After the graduates entered the auditorium to Pomp and Circumstance, National Technical Honor Society President Adria Williams and Key Club President Alex Heras started the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance. This followed with a welcome from GC Tech Assistant Director Sally Maya and congratulatory remarks from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tonie McDonald.
“Your singular focus on your vocation is admirable and will serve you well in the future,” said Dr. McDonald. “On behalf of the board of education, I wish you the best of luck as you continue to hone your crafts either through a college degree or through the world of work.”
Frank Creter, director of art, career and technical education, also offered his praises and gifted each graduate with a GC Tech lanyard to remember their time at the school.
“I am incredibly proud of you for reaching this pinnacle in your life,” he said. “I had mentioned to many people of what a wonderful class you have been over these last two years. I have been impressed by your work, your accomplishments and your dedication to the program. You made a commitment to succeed and created a pathway for your future.”
Student awards and scholarships were presented during the ceremony to members of the graduating class. Among the awards, 10 graduates received the Outstanding Student Award for exceptional achievement in their respective programs and were congratulated by their teachers.
One-by-one, graduates walked the stage to receive their diploma from Mr. Creter. This followed with a handshake from Dr. McDonald, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Todd Winch, board trustee Michael Pappas, Division Avenue High School Principal John Coscia and MacArthur High School Principal Joseph Sheehan. After all the graduates received their diplomas, a slideshow of pictures from their years at GC Tech was presented. The graduates reminisced on the memories they made as they looked back on all they have experienced.
Creter concluded the ceremony by officially announcing the Class of 2019 as the graduates proudly tossed their caps in the air, ready to take on their next adventure.
