PDQ Opens In Farmingdale
In the past few years, burger restaurants have exploded onto the dine-in scene. Whether it’s a nationwide franchise or a locally owned joint, Long Island has no shortage of choices when it comes to a place to chow down on a burger. But where do you go when you’re craving chicken? PDQ just answered that question.
Last week, the fried chicken eatery opened its first New York location on Broadhollow Road in Farmingdale, with its grand opening held this past Sunday. PDQ, which stands for People Dedicated to Quality, boasts a menu that’s fresh, never frozen and made-to-order.
“It’s people dedicated to quality,” emphasized Dean Poll, co-owner of the local franchise. “That’s the name of the company, that’s the people who are behind the company and that’s what the people who are running the stores are, people dedicated to quality.”
Take one bite of a PDQ chicken tender and you’ll understand the restaurant’s namesake in a heartbeat. Juicy on the inside—no questionable texture here, this is real chicken—and crispy on the outside, both the chicken tenders and nuggets are an easy choice for first timers. Tenders come grilled or crispy, in baskets of two to five pieces and served with a choice of fries or tots and a soft drink. Fries are shoestring style, thin and crispy, while tots are short, crunchy on the outside and perfectly patatoey on the inside. Tenders and nuggets, which come in eight or 12 pieces, also come with a choice of sauce: sweet sriracha, ranch, honey mustard, honey bbq, chipotle bbq, buffalo bleu and creamy garlic.
The chicken joint also offers sandwiches, of which Poll believes “PDQ is going to be the New York hometown favorite for chicken sandwiches.” Also including fries or tots and a drink, six sandwiches are on the menu. The crispy chicken sandwich, boasting a tender chicken breast bursting with fresh flavor, mayo, lettuce, tomato and pickles, is sure to be an instant classic among guests, but other options, like the Cali club, which offers ranch, bacon and avocado, and the pimento crunch, which has pimento cheese, sea salt potato chips and bacon, are surefire favorites as well. Honey butter, buffy bleu and grilled chicken sandwiches round out the selection.
Salads include the Mediterranean, crispy chicken, Caesar and grilled chicken, with dressings like lemon-chile vinaigrette, blueberry-ginger vinaigrette, bleu cheese, ranch, classic Caesar and honey mustard. Kids meals offer five nuggets or two tenders, side orders include zucchini fries—excellent with the sweet sriracha—apple slices, broccoli, honey mustard slaw and, of course, fries and tots, and your sweet tooth can be satisfied by a chocolate brownie, chocolate chunk cookie or chewy marshmallow bar.
Fresh-brewed sweetened, unsweetened and green tea are available, as are bottled water, fresh-squeezed lemonade, Cheerwine and a selection of soft drinks. But your best bet is a hand-spun shake. In flavors like Oreo, mint Oreo, Heath, Reese’s cup, vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, the shakes are a thick and creamy PDQ delicacy topped with whipped cream and a cherry for good measure.
