Girls Inc. of Long Island is partnering with Nassau Community College to offer a full scholarship program for students involved with the girls empowerment nonprofit.
Maria P. Conzatti, vice president of academic and student services recently announced the partnership between the Nassau Community College Foundation and Girls Inc. of Long Island. Starting this academic year, girls participating in Girls Inc. of Long Island programs for two years or more will be eligible to apply for a full scholarship with NCC.

“The rising cost of tuition continues to serve as a barrier to education for many, despite income levels,” said Renee Flagler, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Long Island. “What makes this scholarship opportunity so special is the fact that regardless of the recipient’s family income, or other grants or scholarships this student may be eligible to receive, the scholarship funds from Nassau Community College Foundation will still be available to the student to cover the full cost of tuition or to fill any potential financial gaps creating a truly cost-free tuition opportunity for that young woman.”
Conzatti was instrumental in developing this unique opportunity for girls on LI and worked closely with the staff at Girls Inc. of Long Island to develop the criteria to determine eligibility for the scholarship.
“Hearing the mission and vision of Girls Inc. inspired to me to get involved,” she said. “This financial support is provided in hopes that they will pay it forward as they find their successes.”
A goal of Girls Inc. is to create innovative opportunities for girls across Nassau and Suffolk counties.
“This is a pivotal opportunity in the timeline of Girls Inc. of Long Island,” said Flagler. “Breaking barriers is of great importance in the work that we do and giving girls better access to education is just one profound, life-changing way to do it.
