Students and families from Woodland Elementary School in Hicksville recently spent their Saturday assembling baskets of food donations to ensure that some local families can enjoy a proper Thanksgiving feast. Approximately 16 baskets were created and are being donated to Woodland families who will benefit the most from this special contribution.
Students have been bringing food donations to school for more than a month. According to Principal Beth Swanson, they were asked to bring in a different food item every week to accommodate these special Thanksgiving baskets. For every food donation, students received a feather to hang on turkeys in the hallway. Those that helped to create the baskets were able to see their contributions come together for the benefit of Woodland families.

“It was a huge success,” Swanson said. “It’s extra special to see the entire project through from start to finish.”
