8 Cats That Will Give The Gift of Love This Holiday Season

pjimage (95)

While most of us are busy writing our lists and checking them twice, the Nassau County SPCA urges you to think carefully before you give a pet as a holiday gift.

Animals come with responsibilities and the person receiving them may not be prepared to adequately provide for the animal’s care. A pet is a serious long-term responsibility and the decision to include a pet into any home should come only after careful consideration. Please don’t just “get a pet for the kids,” unless you are prepared for a lifetime commitment!

And if you are ready, remember to start at your local town animal shelter where you’ll find dogs and cats of all sizes, breeds, colors, temperaments and personalities. By giving a home to a shelter or rescue animal, you save a life and create space for another needy animal. There is no greater gift than to open your heart and home to an animal in need.

Available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America:

Squeaky
Squeaky

Squeaky (adoption # BF2877) is ready for her next great adventure. After being rescued from the city streets, this terrific, 2-year-old gal is looking forward to a comfortable, safe future with a responsible, loving family. She’s enjoying climbing high and gazing out the windows of NSALA’s cage-free FIV+ room at Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center where she entertains friends (feline and human) with her sweet, quiet demeanor. If you’re looking for a calm companion for your FIV+ cat at home, Squeaky is a delightful choice!

Kattie
Kattie

When Kattie (adoption #R165391) first arrived NSALA’s adoption center, staff and volunteers thought she was a scared, older kitten needing some time and patience to adjust. Turns out, this beautiful, female tortie is a senior 9-years-old cat who has known the security of a home before and truly appreciates her freedom. She’ll be enjoying the cage-free spaces inside Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center while she awaits her new family. This deserving dame is seeking a quiet home, so if you can offer a loving home to a mature, older cat when she needs it most, please come by and introduce yourself to Kattie.

Tee

One-year-old Tee’s bright blue eyes are hypnotizing, but beyond her stunning appearance is a quiet, hope-filled beauty slowly acclimating to her current environment. Tee (adoption #IR1678) traveled all the way from Puerto Rico for her chance at a quiet home, only to discover it wasn’t the right match. Tee’s dream is to be discovered by a loving, responsible family and start a peaceful life as the only pet in the home where she can be nurtured and doted on as a beloved family member. If you envision Tee as part of your household, please come to the Port Washington campus to meet her today!

Jade 1
Jade

Sweeter than sweet is this girl, Jade. Jade can be a little shy at first but once she warms-up she’s your new best friend whether you like it or not. Jade has been searching for her forever home for a while now, so if you can commit to her forever, please contact Almost Home Animal Rescue at almosthomeli.org or call 631-627-3665 today!

Available for adoption at Last Hope Animal Rescue:

Wendy 1
Wendy

Wendy loves being pet, and while this low-key sweetheart adores the private time she gets with volunteers, she is ready for a permanent home with an owner who will provide her with the love she deserves. Last October, kids found Wendy in the parking lot of the Copiague Wendy’s. Last Hope advertised her several weeks as a lost cat because she is so friendly, but no owner claimed her. At about 5 years old, Wendy has a stain from an old eye infection but that doesn’t stop her one bit! She will be the purrfect pet for someone looking for a calm, loving companion who will fit right into a household without kitten antics.

Winky
Winky

Appropriately named, Winky has adapted quite well to having one eye. Winky had her eye surgically removed because of irreparable damage from an eye infection before she was rescued as a kitten. Now almost 5-months old, Winky waits patiently for her “happily ever after” to begin. Winky is currently waiting at Petsmart in Huntington for her forever family. Head down to meet her if that could be you!

Available for adoption through Pets4Luv:

Pikachu
Pikachu

Pikachu is as sweet as she is cute. This little girl was adopted a while back, but recently returned now that her elderly parents can no longer care for her. Pikachu is single and ready to mingle, so if you can open your heart and home to this little lady, please contact Dave at info@pets4luv.org or 516-832-8200.

As always, thanks for reading and please remember to always adopt, never shop…pass it on!
