1 (7)
Stop & Shop has been donating 5,000 free fresh meals every day for healthcare first responders in some of the areas hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. A local woman is among many people aiming to also feed local medics.

A Manhasset woman has surpassed her goal to raise $30,000 online to donate food to healthcare workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

Maria Rizzuto and two other people have raised $36,750 as of Thursday through their GoFundMe page as of this post. She has made 54 visits to deliver food to 34 healthcare facilities as of Thursday.

“Nurses and doctors in the emergency rooms are in need of good food while on the front line fighting for us, one less thing for them to think about,” the organizers say in their fundraising appeal.

“We need to do our part to help them while they help our mothers, fathers, neighbors, and friends.. our fellow humans,” they continue. “Will purchase from local restaurants who also need our help at this juncture to stay open.”

They plan to donate food to all hospitals in the New York metro area that are treating COVID-19 patients.
