Cats Named Clam Chowder and Minestrone Among Pets Up For Adoption on Long Island

COVID-19 has certainly put a strain on animal shelters and rescues. With limited staff and an abundance of homeless animals, these cats and dogs need a hero. No cape required — they just need love and a safe, forever home.

Available for adoption through North Shore Animal League America:

Salvatore
Salvatore

After a lifetime running around the streets of the Bronx scavenging for his next meal, Salvatore (Adoption #L80528) came upon a kind hero who had a better plan for him. Now this gentle, 3-year-old is being pampered for the first time by his new friends in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. Whatever his life was before he came to NSALA, he’s put it behind him and is lapping up all the attention he’s receiving both from human friends. He would prefer to be the only pet in his home so if you’re looking to share your home with a true heartthrob, Salvatore should be your number one choice!

Stella and Stew
Stella and Stew

**Double Adoption** When an experienced local rescue hero discovered Stella (Adoption #L80526) and Stew (Adoption #L80527) hovering near his home, he plucked up the lucky duo and knew exactly where to bring them to ensure their brightest future. Now you’ll find these sweet, shy 11-month-old kittens making biscuits in comfy blankets while receiving ear rubs from new human friends. They may seem shy at first, but just try to stop rubbing their ears and you’ll see how much they appreciate making new friends with you. All Stella and Stew need now for their happily ever after is one more hero: you!

Sash and Humphrey Bogart
Sash and Humphrey Bogart

**Double Adoption** When Sash and Humphrey Bogart’s (Adoption #WV0270) lives got derailed by a crisis, they lost the only home and family they’d ever known. Sash, a 3-year-old tabby, has taken the sudden changes in their lives in stride, and is gratefully greeting visitors to their cage-free room in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center like the grand southern belle she is. Humphrey, a fetching 4-year-old male, is less enchanted by the changes, but is trying very hard to follow his braver sister’s lead. He’s never far from Sash’s side, and NSALA promised them that their forever includes each other. If you would like to offer these besties a loving home, Sash and Humphrey Bogart would be most grateful for your kindness.

Valencia
Valencia

When you’re as stunning as Valencia (Adoption #WV0272), you don’t have to work too hard to get adopters’ attention. This spotted, 3-year-old tabby with velvety soft fur will chirp for you. She’s impossible to miss, and everyone’s top pick for most likely to succeed at getting adopted this weekend. Flawless Valencia is ready to chirp her way into your heart so please don’t pass up the opportunity to make room for this southern rescue in your home!

Geena Davis
Geena Davis

Geena Davis (Adoption# WV0282) is in a league of her own! In a very short time, she’s experienced a lot of excitement. She mothered a beautiful litter of kittens and then traveled from West Virginia to Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. Now it’s time for this one-year old young mama to put a chaotic life behind and luxuriate in the comfort of her human’s arms. Let Geena Davis show you she’s the purrfect match for you in your quiet home. Your big heart is all she requires.

Mandy and Lilly
Mandy and Lilly

**Double Adoption** When a crisis upturned their lives, Mandy (Adoption #BF3284) and Lilly (Adoption #VR2457) needed NSALA’s help to get them back on track. These two lovely bonded ladies have been welcomed into into Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center where they can take all the time they need to get back on their paws and help us search for a more permanent situation. Lilly is already very grateful for the opportunity and is displaying it openly with hearty greetings at the door. Shyer Mandy watches her best friend for inspiration and is warming up to ear rubs from visitors. This wonderful pair of 6-year olds has gone through hard times together and look forward to safe, secure future filled with all the love they deserve. Lilly and Mandy are waiting for a guardian angel to take them home — they’ve been waiting for you!

Clam Chowder and Minestrone
Clam Chowder and Minestrone

Voila! Clam Chowder and Minestrone are a pair of 11-month-old brothers who would love to be adopted together. Both kitties were originally adopted from the Animal Shelter this past December, however they sadly were brought back after experiencing some issues with the dog in the house. These little guys are hoping for another chance at finding a furever home with a loving family. Both Clam Chowder and Minestrone are quiet and full of love. They would do well in a calm home, and they get along well with other cats and with children.

If you are interested in meeting Clam Chowder and Minestrone, please call ahead to schedule a meet and greet 631-360-7575.

COVID-19: Foster Opportunity: Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Smithtown Animal Shelter has had to restrict public access, including loyal volunteers. If you have no other pets or young children at home and are looking for a way to serve your community in this time of crisis, please consider signing up to be a foster. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens, and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for extended periods of time. Grover
Grover

Take a look at this face! Grover is the adorable 6-year-old cutie pie who came to the shelter as a stray in May 2020. He was found by a good Samaritan, very underweight when he arrived. Grover is super friendly with people and likes meeting other dogs too. He displayed slight guarding issues during his evaluation, so his ideal home would be with people with some experience with guarding, and a home with kids 15 and older. Grover is currently at the shelter and available for foster or adoption. Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] to learn more about how to bring Grover home today!

Snowy 2
Snowy

**Senior Alert** Meet Snowy, an adorable 15-year-old poodle. His senior dad passed away and, sadly, the family could or would not keep him. He had a date to be euthanized before PAWS took him in. Poor thing was so matted, volunteers could barely find his head!  e is blind but otherwise, the vet has proclaimed him to be “very, very healthy.” Snowy is understandably set in his ways. He is very sweet and very sure about what he wants. He lets you know when he’s hungry and when he has to go out. He just needs a safe, warm and loving home. His only requirement for his new parent/family is to provide a home to allow him to enjoy his twilight years without the fear of being subject to euthanasia for his age or disability.

Puma
Puma

Puma and his sister Serena are about 8 years old and need all the help they can get.  Their senior mom passed away months ago and they have since been in foster homes but need a home of their own. They’ve lost so much; they are now very shy and will need some time to settle in. They need someone with patience and love who will understand they will not want to be held for a while. It will take some time for them to warm up but imagine how great it will feel when you earn that trust. They are in desperate need of a home of their own.

Available for adoption at the Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter:

Bayden e1592583262651
Bayden

Can you help Bayden get adopted? He’s an 11-year-old pure breed American Staffordshire Terrier, surrendered to the Animal Shelter by his owners after they had their children. The family did not feel he was a good fit with small children. Bayden has bilateral hip dysplasia as well as an old injury to one of his knees. These conditions have left him extremely arthritic. He would need someone who has experience and is willing to accept the cost of the medications that he requires to keep him comfortable. Bayden would thrive in a home environment as opposed to the shelter. Hoping that someone will have that special place in their heart and home for Bayden in his golden years. If you would like to meet Bayden, please call 516-677-5784.

As always, thanks for reading and please remember to always adopt, never shop…pass it on!
