The Tower Foundation of Manhasset once again has shown its commitment to the students of Manhasset, as the organization has donated $50,000 to the district to purchase a new CNC router and engraver for Manhasset Secondary School’s technology and engineering classes.
“On behalf of the district, I thank the Tower Foundation for its ongoing support of innovative programming for the students of Manhasset,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Vincent Butera said. “For years, Tower has been making significant contributions that have resulted in so many different resources and facilities that have enhanced the learning environment in our schools.”
A CNC router, or a computer numerical control router, is a computer-controlled machine used for cutting, punching, grooving and milling various hard materials, including wood, steel and plastics. CNC engraving machines can be used for hollow carving and three-dimensional engraving of plate or three-dimensional parts.
“Tower is pleased to help fund the purchase of the Innovation Lab equipment at the Secondary School which will develop students’ creative and problem-solving skills. This initiative aligns with Tower’s mission to enrich the learning experiences of students and to help them develop essential lifelong skills,” said Vicky Giouroukakis and Katie Derasse, Co-Presidents of the Tower Foundation of Manhasset in a joint statement.
The Tower Foundation of Manhasset is a not-for-profit organization established in 1991 by members of the Manhasset community in response to the simultaneous decline in state funding and increase in the district’s student population. Since its inception, Tower has donated more than $2.4 million to the district in support of various curricular and extracurricular programs for students, core facility upgrades, teacher grants, student scholarships, and more.
