Great Neck Man Arrested In Manhasset

The Public Information Office reports the Arrest of a Great Neck man for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance that occurred on Thursday, July 2, at 9:33 p.m. in Manhasset.

According to police, while on routine patrol, an officer initiated an investigation of a suspicious person in a motor vehicle on Plandome Rd. and Bayview Ave. During the investigation, officers discovered pills believed to be oxycodone in the subject’s vehicle. The defendant, Jonathan Mata, 24, then fled the scene on foot when officers attempted to place him under arrest. He then stole a bicycle on Hillside Ave. in an attempt to evade police. The defendant was located and apprehended a short time later on Virginia Drive. Further investigation discovered approximately 110 miscellaneous fireworks in the vehicle.

Jonathan Mata is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Petit Larceny, multiple violations of New York State Labor Law concerning fireworks and multiple VTL Violations. He was arraigned on July 3 in Mineola.
