Long Island University is launching a brand new school, The Roosevelt School, offering studies in international relations, diplomacy, leadership, and service, college officials announced in a press release Thursday.

The Roosevelt School is named for the 26th President of the U.S., Theodore Roosevelt; the 32nd President of the U.S., Franklin Delano Roosevelt; and Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. It will be chaired by none other than Tweed Roosevelt, great-grandson of Theodore Roosevelt, who is chairman of the Theodore Roosevelt Institute and professor at Long Island University.

“This exciting academic venture will prepare graduates to carry forth the highest standards of professionalism, diplomacy and integrity represented by the extraordinary and unparalleled reputations of Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt,” Tweed Roosevelt said in a statement.

The new school will prepare students for a variety of careers in service, policy making, foundations, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies, the press release stated. Students will be able to earn an undergraduate degree in international relations and diplomacy or a 5-year BA and MBA in international relations and diplomacy/masters of business administration.

The school’s first cohort of students will begin classes at the Brookville and Brooklyn campuses in fall 2021. Students can now apply at liu.edu/roosevelt-school. The school will also house LIU’s Theodore Roosevelt Institute, Global Service Institute, and Steven S. Hornstein Center for Policy, Polling, and Analysis.

“Long Island University is proud to further build upon the exceptional heritage of the Roosevelts,” Long Island University President Kimberly R. Cline said in a statement. “The Roosevelt School will prepare students to achieve success in a global society by guiding them to become well-informed, critically-minded and engaged citizens.”
