At a recent Woman’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) general meeting, members Dolores Cianciabella and Anna Ievolo presented “Extra Mile” Certificates to several members recognizing their extraordinary efforts during the pandemic to guarantee that the Ways & Means Committee would continue to be able to raise enough funds to support its annual monetary awards to deserving Farmingdale High School seniors as they continue on to higher education and to make financial donations to many local charities.

Among those honored was Ways & Means Chair Vicky Impollonia. She organized outside bingo afternoons at the gazebo on the Village Green and a fall crafts table at the village outdoor Fall festival. Also recognized was Nancy Carman, who sewed dozens of reversible face masks for adults and children, baby blankets and lap blankets for sale at the fall event and throughout the club year. At a time to be determined, the club will also honor Helen Norjen, who for more than 20 years represented the WCF in efforts to limit use of large aircraft at Republic Airfield by attending many meetings and voicing her concerns and then reporting back to the club. In addition, Norjen is very involved with supporting the Wounded Warriors Project, honoring these heroes at luncheons and parades. She proudly supported club members when they presented the WWP with donations of hand-made lap blankets. Also honored at this meeting was Loda Romanelli for her milestone 50-year membership in the WCF.

In time for Mother’s Day, WCF members donated 38 new and gently used tote bags filled toiletries and personal care supplies for young women and 17 new or gently used tote bags filled with diapers, lotions, pacifiers, etc. for babies or small children residing at Madonna Heights, a 24-hour care facility that addresses the physical, emotional and social needs unique to women and girls. They build confidence, strengthen family bonds and support the transition back home or to a home in the community. Visit www.sco.org/featured-programs/madonna-heights/ for more information.

Welfare Committee Chair Rosemary Emigholz also made several donations to local charities during the winter and early spring months. Members donated dozens of bags of food items to St. Kilian’s Outreach and paid a visit to Epic House with Easter baskets for its residents.
