The Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club will be honored to welcome Kenneth O. Jackson, Police Commissioner of the Inc. Village of Garden City, to speak to members and guests on June 29 at 12:15 p.m. at Calogero’s restaurant in Garden City. Commissioner Jackson will report on current topics such as COVID, reform laws, scams and traffic safety.
“Our Garden City Police Department is proud to be a modern, innovative, proactive police agency, attentive to the needs of the community,” it was stated in the village’s 2020 annual report. “The department maintains a policy of omnipresence and preventative patrols resulting in Garden City being recognized as one of the safest communities in New York State and the United States.”
Held in the highest regard, Commissioner Jackson has held numerous memberships and is the recipient of countless departmental and community awards, and citations throughout his distinguished 36-year career. The Village of Garden City is indeed fortunate to have Commissioner Jackson at the helm.
The commissioner joined the Garden City Police Department in June of 1985 after serving four years with the New York City Transit Police Department. He was appointed the department’s Training Officer in 1986, assigned to the Tactical Division in 1990, and the Detective Division in 1991 at which time he was also promoted as Sergeant; then, Lieutenant in 1995, and Inspector in 2005. Commissioner Jackson rose to Police Commissioner in 2012. He has also served as Commanding Officer of the Department’s Tactical Division, Commanding Officer of the Detective Division and Deputy Commanding Officer of the Department.
Commissioner Jackson’s far-reaching memberships include the Nassau County Municipal Chiefs Association to which he serves as current Executive Director; International Association of Chiefs of Police, Board of Governors; Garden City Community Council on Substance Abuse; the Garden City Police Benevolent Association Boar and more.
Commissioner Kenneth Jackson has also acquired far-reaching awards and recognitions, which includes the President’s Award for Top Overall Score in the NY City Transit Police Academy; NY City Transit Police Meritorious Award; American Legion Law and Order Award (1988 and 1994); NC Municipal Chiefs Distinguished Service Award; U.S. Congressional Certificate of Merit; NYS Division of Criminal Justice Recognition of Excellence; and Nassau County Executive Award of Appreciation, and more.
