Long Island Sees Uptick in Covid-19 Positivity Rate

Long Island is seeing a slight uptick in new cases of Covid-19, with 1.7 percent of those tested for the virus testing positive on Tuesday, according to New York State’s results dashboard.

Of the 7,141 people who were tested for Covid-19 on Long Island, 120 of them were positive for the virus on Tuesday. Long Island’s Covid-19 positivity rate on a 7-day average is 1.0 percent, and the statewide average is .9 percent.

A week earlier, on July 4, Long Island’s daily positivity rate was .7 percent, 1 percent less than Tuesday. Statewide, the positivity rate rose .5 percent in the same time period.

Two people died from Covid on Tuesday, one of them from Nassau County. Nassau has 80.3 percent of its adults vaccinated against the virus with at least one shot, and in Suffolk, 73 percent of adults have received at least one vaccine dose.
