Over a week after the devastating accident in Quogue that took the lives of five people, including Manhasset alums Ryan Kiess, 25, and brothers Michael, 20, and James, 25, Farrell, the bi-weekly Manhasset Al Fresco honored their lives and impact on the community by displaying blue and orange ribbons and balloons.
Money was also raised by the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce and local businesses along Plandome Road for the scholarship that will be established by the Farrell brother’s parents, Jim and Elene Farrell. Funds were also donated to GoFundMe pages for those impacted by the tragedy, including Kiess’ girlfriend Brianna Maglio, 22, of Garden City. She is currently in critical condition but is reportedly showing signs of improvement.
With the event beginning at 3:30 p.m., locals and non-locals alike gathered on South Plandome Road. Today’s hits were played by DJ Italo and a performance from guitarist Raffi followed. Diners ate in front of restaurants Herb & Olive, Villa Milano and Buttercooky Bakery.
Villa Milano and Buttercooky Bakery donated all proceeds from outdoor dining to the GoFundMe pages and the Farrell Scholarship Fund and Herb & Olive donated proceeds from purchases of Loukoumades to the Farrell Scholarship Fund. Helmut stickers honoring the Farrell brothers and Kiess were available at the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce table, as well as multiple raffles that raised money for the scholarship fund and GoFundMe pages. Children also were invited to “Chalk The Town” in an initiative from Manhasset Chamber of Commerce Beautification. They drew pictures along Plandome Road. At 6:30 p.m., a moment of silence was held for the Farrell brothers and Kiess.
A performance from Liam Morrisey and DJ Italo wrapped up the Al Fresco event.
In the Manhasset Al Fresco series that will run through October, the next event will take place on North Plandome Road on Aug. 8 from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m.
