Town Officials Raise Awareness of Mental Health Issues Facing Veterans

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Tom Hand and their colleagues in government, in collaboration with Blue Star Mothers NY14 and AMVETS Post 88, unveiled a “22 A Day” Memorial Sign in Klestinec Park.

JK 01 15 11am 137The sign raises awareness of mental health issues facing our hometown heroes and recognizes the estimated 22 veterans a day lost to suicide, as well as the toll it take it takes on their loved ones.

“Today and every day we must acknowledge that ‘Not All Wounds are Visible,’” said Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “We must continue to work together to build awareness around, and remove the stigma associated with, mental health and seeking treatment for veterans and civilians alike. Together, let’s raise awareness of the resources available to veterans facing depression and other mental health issues.”

This hotline offers free and confidential support to all veterans, all service members, National Guard and Reserves, and their family members and friends 24/7, 365 days a year.
