The Town of Oyster Bay Polar Plunge will return to Tobay Beach on March 19 to raise funds for Special Olympics New York.

Organizers of the annual polar plunge encourage individual participants and teams to get “freezin’ for a reason” starting 11 a.m. that Saturday morning, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. Like every year, attendees are also encouraged to wear costumes.

Prior to the start of the plunge, there will be a “parking lot party” with food, games, music, a costume contest, and prizes for teams that raise the most money for Special Olympics New York.

“Special Olympics New York provides inclusive opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to discover and unleash the champion within,” the event flyer states. “Our athletes experience the thrill of competing in authentic sports at no cost to them or their families. They overcome defeat, taste victory, and stay active for life.”

All participants who raise $150 or more will receive the annual Polar Plunge sweatshirt. Teams that raise $5,000 or more will get a table at the organization’s Winter Festival and a personalized banner in the Plunge Parade. Teams that raise $3,000 or more will receive a personalized banner.

Individuals who raise $2,500 or more will join the Champions Club and receive a stadium chair, and individuals who raise $1,000 will join the Grand Club and receive a dry fit T-shirt.

A $25 fee is required to participate in the plunge and will contribute to each participant’s overall fundraising total.
