If you’re a pet owner, chances are your furry friend could use a makeover. Just like humans, animals thrive when they are properly groomed, and with lots of grooming options these days, it’s easy to find one that’s right for you.

But what is best: A mobile groomer or a brick-and-mortar shop? For pets who enjoy a car ride, visiting a salon may be your best bet. Lindsey Snyder opened Lindsey’s Groom Room in Kings Park in 2010.

“I opened my shop specifically to work with rescues and biting dogs,” says Snyder. “We accept all babies, whether they love grooming or have had prior negative experiences.”

The benefits of visiting a salon may include lower prices, availability to watch your pet, ease of appointment availability, and the advantage of having multiple employees in case an animal needs extra attention during grooming, which is much safer for a biting or scared animal.

There are also options for animals who become stressed in the presence of other animals. In this case, pet owners can consider home grooming. Known as Mitch the Groomer, Mitch Smith from Plainview began grooming dogs in his home in 2020.

“I was working as a photographer taking action shots of my neighbor’s dog when I suggested a haircut to help make the pup more photogenic,” says Smith. Because he had dogs of his own and knew basic grooming skills, they asked him to help demote their dog, which he did. “They were so thrilled with the results they shared the photos and story on Facebook, and my phone hasn’t stopped ringing ever since,” says Smith. Clients who see Mitch in his home have no wait time, see no other pets, and enjoy a quiet, secluded space.

And for some, mobile grooming is the way to go. Nikki Fiore from PURRcise Grooming has been making pets look their best since she turned 17. Mobile groomers provide the convenience of grooming your pet in your home or in the groomer’s mobile unit. This is especially convenient for people without transportation options or who have a pet that doesn’t like to travel.

“Home grooming is a great experience for both the owner and the dog because the work is done within such a familiar environment,” says Fiore. Mobile grooming provides a personal experience for everyone involved and can even be done outside during the warmer weather months.

No matter which option you choose, a well-groomed pet is a happy pet, so contact any one of these great groomers to set up your next appointment today.
