In celebration of International Women’s Day, the City of Glen Cove hosted “Female Firsts,” a panel discussion with groundbreaking women who inspire and empower others.

City of Glen Cove Councilwoman Marsha Silverman organized and moderated the event which included Elaine Phillips, the first female Nassau County Comptroller; Martine Materasso, the first female Chief of the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau of the NYPD; and Dawn Riley, the first American (male or female) to sail in three America’s Cups and two Whitbread Round the World races.

The panel discussed issues that face women in predominantly male fields and how women can succeed in the face of adversity. The program concluded with Kristen Henderson and Nini Camps, members of the all-female rock bank, Antigone Rising, singing their hit song, “Game Changer.”

“It was my privilege and honor to bring these amazingly talented women together to show others that the sky can be the limit,” said Councilwoman Silverman.

In attendance were Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck, Councilmen Jack Mancusi and Joseph Capobianco, and Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi Whitton.
