Foster or Adopt a Pet Cat or Dog on Long Island

foster or adopt

While there are always plenty of dogs and cats available for adoption on Long Island, there is also the opportunity to foster an animal. Fostering not only makes room for other animals in need, but it also provides socialization and relaxation for an animal that may be stressed in a shelter or rescue setting. Contact your favorite rescue organization for more information.

Delilah
Delilah

Delilah is a 10-year-old gal who was found abandoned in a park with her brother, Samson, after their mom sadly passed away. Delilah is super loving and affectionate, and she enjoys getting attention. She has chronic dry eye that needs to be managed with daily medication, as well as some skin sensitivities, but she is otherwise a very healthy and happy mush. Due to her dominant personality, the only other dog Delilah can live with is Samson. She would do well in a home with older kids. While it would be AMAZING if Samson and Delilah were adopted together, they can be separated if necessary.

If you are interested in meeting Delilah, please call 631-360-7575. In addition, if you have no other pets or young children at home and are looking for a way to serve your community, please consider signing up to be a foster. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens, and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for extended periods of time. Diamond

Diamond arrived at the shelter in February when her owner could no longer care for her.  Diamond presents as a bit aloof, but with time spent together, she warms up and acclimates to new friends quickly. Diamond would love a new home where she will be given time and patience to acclimate to her new settings and the new people in her life. Once Diamond has bonded, she is incredibly dedicated to you. She would best thrive as an only pet and kids over 8 years old.

Luna
Luna

Talk about a gorgeous gray domestic long-haired cat who is super sweet … that’s how staff and volunteers describe Luna. She enjoys being petted and brushed and will also rub herself on the cat scratchers. This is a lap cat who is shy at first until she warms up, and before you know it, she’s snuggling in your bed or in your lap watching TV with you. Luna is also good with children and not opposed to dogs. She is ready for her forever home!

Lucy
Lucy

Five-year-old Lucy (Adoption #BF3695) has the makings of a special soulmate. This local discovery can’t tell us all she’s experienced that led her to needing help, but her gratitude is quite clear. A quiet, loving home is exactly what Lucy craves, and NSALA is looking to give her everything she dreams of and more by finding her a family who’ll offer her a lifetime of ear rubs to make up for the tough start she’s put behind her. Due to her sensitivity, Lucy’s family should have patience and experience in nurturing her tentative nature; a predictable home with children over age 12 would put her on the right track for success as a member of the family.

Kella
Kella

Kella’s (Adoption #BF3977) need for peace and quiet was apparent when she first came into NSALA’s care after a harrowing time fending for herself outdoors. This stunning 8-year-old lady has taken to the good life indoors, and NSALA is going to make sure the lucky family who adopts her can provide her more peace and love than she’s ever had before. She’s responded so nicely to the predictable patterns of her shelter day, so a home with experienced adults and children over age 12 who can provide her more of that tranquility and routine will be rewarded with ample servings of gratitude.

Sushi
Sushi

All you need to win his heart is a gentle ear rub and reassurance that this time he’s home for good!

Beauty
Beauty

Beauty (Adoption #PR00083) was aptly named! This exquisite 1-year-old charmer traveled from Puerto Rico with an open heart, in search of her soul mate. Although she isn’t too fond of sharing her space with feline roommates; she hasn’t met a human she doesn’t like! Beauty is an easy choice for first time adopters hoping to find one special someone to call theirs. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and in this case, she could be in the lap of her special human soon!

Yoda
Yoda

Five-year-old Yoda (Adoption #BF3999) has had to process a lot recently after being locally rescued by a good Samaritan, but he’s taking a very Zen approach as he settling into a comfy bed in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. He’s in no hurry to show us much beyond the gratitude he feels as a thank you for a gentle ear rub.  All in good time… Time outside may be what led him to be FIV+, but he’ll never have to worry about his safety again. NSALA is committed to finding him a peaceful place to exhale and can’t wait to meet the heroes who adopt this wise, gentle soul into their heart and home.
