Suffolk County has announced new pop-up clinics for eligible residents to receive the monkeypox vaccine.
For several weeks, the county has been partnering with Northwell Health and Stony Brook Medicine to administer the vaccine on Fire Island and in Bay Shore and Hampton Bays. Now, Sun River Health will host pop-up vaccine clinics in Brentwood and Patchogue.
“Although monkeypox cases remain low here in Suffolk, it is critical that we continue to offer vaccinations to our residents to ensure the safety of everyone,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. “Through our new partnership with Sun River Health, we are expanding the footprint of our pop-up clinics, offering even more opportunities for our residents to get vaccinated.”
The county received 4,080 more monkeypox vaccine doses from New York State this week. Registration for appointments at Sun River Health Centers in Brentwood and Patchogue will open on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Appointments are required. Eligible individuals can make an appointment by visiting suffolkcountyny.gov/monkeypox.
New York State guidelines for monkeypox vaccine eligibility includes:
- Individuals with recent exposure to monkeypox within the past 14 days
- Those at high risk of a recent exposure to monkeypox, including members of the gay, bisexual, transgender, and gender non-conforming community and other communities of men who have sex with men and who have engaged in intimate or skin-to-skin contact with others in the past 14 days in areas where monkeypox is spreading.
- Individuals who have had skin-to-skin contact with someone in a social network experiencing monkeypox activity, including men who have sex with men who meet partners through an online website, digital application (“app”), or social event, such as a bar or party.
More pop-up clinics will be announced on a rolling basis, county officials said. Here is a list of upcoming clinics:
