Spend The Dog Days of Summer Adopting One of These Pets

Cherry (1)
Cherry

Long Island shelters and rescues are at capacity. If you can’t commit to adoption, please consider fostering; it’s a temporary situation that allows animals to decompress outside of an otherwise stressful environment while they wait for their forever home.

Worried about cost? Animals in foster care are often sponsored, so there’s little out of pocket costs. Thinking it’s too much work? Adopt or foster a senior, most just want to relax all day. There’s a special someone out there for everyone, so please save a life if you can.

Upcoming Events

Join the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 13 at Belfast Pub, 101 N. Wellwood Ave in Lindenhurst for a fundraiser for the shelter. They will have bios for all their dogs, volunteer applications, some Trigger gear, and items to raffle.

Last Hope Animal Rescue is having their annual SPAYghetti Dinner to help fund their feral cat programs on Friday, August 26 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Levittown Hall, 210 Levittown Parkway, Hicksville. Cost is $30 per person or $35 at the door. There will be spaghetti of course, salad, dessert, coffee, etc. Pre-purchase tickets at lasthopeanimalrescue.org/spayghetti-dinner…

Sandy
Sandy

Hop to it! The shelter has a ton of rabbits available for adoption. One is cuter than the next so please contact them for more information.

If you’re looking for a true rescue, check out Town of Babylon’s Girl Squad! These gals, Sandy, Jackie, Cherry and Maddy have all been at the shelter for waaaay to long, and would love nothing more than a forever home to feel safe in. They need to be the only princess canines in a home, with children 12 and older. They are all young and special ladies (between the ages of 3 and 5) who unfortunately are growing up in a stressful shelter.

Jackie
Jackie

Urgent Foster Plea: 14-year-old Lucy is a 50-pound blind hound mix part of a court case. Please do not be discouraged that she is blind, they do very well using their other senses to make up for the shortfall of sight. She is people and dog friendly but would need a calm housemate to avoid any injuries.

Urgent Foster Plea: 12-year-old Bahama has a serious heart murmur and kidney failure. He is a pit mix and around 60 lbs. and would need to be the only dog. He is great with people and just needs a quiet place to retire to. He does require prescription food which will be provided for him.  He is very laid back and needs very little physical exercise. A short walk is fine for him if you don’t have a fenced yard. He is very easy to walk.

Maddy
Maddy

Both dogs have rescues ready to support so all medical expenses are covered. The shelter is a hard place for any dog but when you are older and not feeling well it is much harder on them.  Please contact the shelter for information about adopting or fostering by emailing them at [email protected]

Betty Boop
Betty Boop

Betty Boop has been a resident of the shelter for way too long. This 12-year-old sweetheart is just a low-key and very loving girl who is a big fan of food and getting snuggles! Betty loves to dip her feet in the kiddie pools and play with dog toys. If you give her a treat and a belly rub, she’ll be your friend for life. She suffers from significant arthritis of her hips and knees and will need a home that can properly provide her with medications. Betty Boop should be the only pet in an adult-only home.

If you are interested in meeting Betty Boop, please fill out an application to schedule time to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes the shelters Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and Dog Walk trail, or call 631-360-7575 for more information today!

Sappho and Meatball
Sappho and Meatball

**Double Adoption** 7-year-old Sappho (Adoption #H206237) and 6-year-old Meatball (Adoption #V35566) were rescued from a perilous situation and offered a safe place to land where they could relearn to trust humans. Animal League America’s very nurturing team gave them all the time and encouragement they’ve needed to help them believe the future holds a better life than any they’d known in their past. They’re now seeking a feline-experienced home (with older children, if any) to provide these bonded friends with the patience and consistency they’ve embraced. Meatball has shown interest in our Catio, and enjoys watching his more confident friends during playtime, but he always makes his way back to his lady love Sappho who is content to wait for him in a bed they share. Our love for this timid, bonded duo is contagious; we predict their special human will cherish them as we do and offer them all the support and gentle love they deserve.

Flux and Alutia
Flux and Alutia

**Double Adoption** We love a homegrown love story! 3-year-olds Flux (Adoption #LA2192) and Alutia (Adoption #G26629) met and fell in love in their quiet room in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, adjusting from two separate southern rescues. Alutia (from Georgia) who had been aloof around other cats, couldn’t resist the charm of her ever purrsistant beau Flux (from Louisiana.) Now you’ll find her wrapping her impressive tail around his, and him giving her the space she needs when she wants her “me” time. No other cat can fit inside Alutia’s heart quite perfectly. A feline-experienced home (with children over age 12) will be a wonderful place for this happy couple to settle down and begin their furever together!

Piper and Pearl
Piper and Pearl

**Double and Senior Adoption** 13-year-old Pearl (Adoption #SPC314) and her 7-year-old daughter Piper (Adoption #SPC315) met a huge obstacle when they lost their home. With their trusted friends at Animal League America by their side, these tentative ladies have taken comfort in the quiet room they share in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. After taking time to regroup, these devoted ladies have ventured out from their preferred hiding spots to warmly welcome visitors to their room. Both are quite motivated to share treats with new friends! While you may find Piper greeting you by the door, Pearl likes you to settle in so she can occupy your lap. Vets have put together a terrific plan for Pearl’s hyperthyroidism, which is covered at cost through Animal League America’s Pet Health Centers. They’re looking for someone special to love the pair as they had always been loved before. A quiet, cat-experienced, adult home will fill them up with the love they miss, and in return, they’ll repay you with heaps of gratitude for setting their lives back on course for happiness.

Blanca
Blanca

3-year-old Blanca (Adoption #E3633) lost her home when she was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease, but in turn she gained a legion of fans at Animal League America. So beloved is she by their vets that her healthy upgrade has been bittersweet as it’s meant an end to her hospital days with those trusted fans as Bianca makes a fresh start on the adoption floor. Making an impact on people is easy peasy for Blanca. Her quiet appreciation for tender, loving care is intoxicating. If you’d like to offer this gorgeous lady the happiness she deserves, our medical team has made it easier for you to make a commitment by covering her medical needs at cost while using our Pet Health Centers. Now you can focus on making Blanca happy for the rest of her life! And we bet she’ll make you just as happy!

Elijah
Elijah

Elijah’s (Adoption #WV0309) birthday is coming up this month! He’s about to turn one! Want to celebrate in your home? This charming boy has a lot of energy and would do great in a feline-experienced home (with children over age 8) who’ll enjoy keeping up with his sense of adventure while teaching him appropriate ways to play. It’s in those tender moments that you’ll see his true purrsonality shine.

Rory and Ruby
Rory and Ruby

**Double Adoption** 8-month-olds Rory (Adoption #G27939) and Ruby (Adoption #G27940) have had enough excitement in their young lives and would like to leave it behind them. Together these impish sisters are ready to face a more secure future indoors and are happy to wait in a snuggled embrace for the right humans to come along and claim them as beloved family members. Looking for a pair of chill girls to relax with at home? Rory and Ruby could be purrfect for you!

Zelba
Zelba

Sweet Zelba (Adoption #H211193) has plans to make the most of her fresh start. After growing up on the local streets, she’s taken the transition to indoor living in stride, and can’t wait to see what’s next for her. Your living room is all the adventures this delightful little 10-month-old lady needs, especially when they include snuggles from you!

Leo and Luna
Leo and Luna

**Double and Senior Adoption** 9-year-old Leo (Adoption #BF3238) and 3-year-old Luna (Adoption #L80521) fell in love in Animal League America’s Adoption Center and were adopted into a home together. They shared a love nest until recently when they were returned to Bianca’s Furry Friends. While the dashing senior Leo does his best to comfort his lady love, young Luna could use reassurance from the humans as well. A quiet, consistent, and cat-experienced home will have them settled back into the loving lifestyle they’ve come to appreciate. If you have a heart for true romance, don’t miss out on chaperoning this purrmanent date
