The Chimneys, a famous estate of Charles Porter Wilson, who was chairman of the A&P supermarkets, is listed for sale in Mill Neck.

Architect Charles Hart, of Hart & Shape, designed the home, which was built in 1928. Wilson died a year later, so the estate is often called the Mrs. C. Porter Wilson estate, according to Old Long Island.

The lavish 13,000-square-foot home is located at 127 Horseshoe Rd., alongside other mansions on the waterfront in Mill Neck. This particular estate spans across two 12-acre lots for a total of 24 acres that include the main house, carriage house, cottages, trails, an inground pool, a tennis court, and four garage spaces.

The Chimneys’ main Tudor mansion has a herringbone brick exterior with some stone, as well as gothic-like details and double front doors. On the first floor, there is a large entryway with stone floors. There is also a library with walnut paneling and a formal dining room with white wood paneling.

The second and third floors host the bedrooms and bathrooms. There is also a finished attic and finished basement, which has many rooms including a wine cellar and a half bathroom. The home has a total of six marble fireplaces and two elevators.

The asking price is $16,990,000, not including the annual property tax of $274,955.

The real estate agent listed for the property is Paula Handler, of Laffey Real Estate, who can be reached at 516-625-0944.
