Comedian Amy Schumer returns with a new season of her offbeat sketch comedy show Inside Amy Schumer on Thursday. It is the first new episode in six years and will stream on Paramount+.

Inside Amy Schumer last aired on Comedy Central in June 2016. Given everything that’s happened in the country and world since then, some critics are skeptical about how the show will resonate in 2022 and how Schumer will address current issues.

“The first two episodes, which will both hit the streaming service on Oct. 20, suggest that Schumer is equally confused about how to proceed,” Judy Berman wrote in a review for Time magazine.

Another reviewer, Kyndall Cunningham, had a more positive take, saying the season is “another amusing showcase of the comedian’s deftness when she sticks to what she knows rather than trying to comment on a larger spectrum of issues, like too many progressive comics aim to do.”

Schumer, a Rockville Centre native, spent the past six years starring in other shows, such as Life & Beth on Hulu and even a cooking show, and movies, as well as embarking on stand-up comedy tours. Inside Amy Schumer had already been renewed in 2016 for a fifth season, which will have a total of five episodes.

Guests on the fifth season include Amber Tamblyn, Bridget Everett, Cara Delevinge, Chris Parnell, Ellie Kemper, Jesse Williams, Laura Benanti, Michael Ian Black, Olivia Munn, and Tim Meadows.

Episodes 1 and 2 of Inside Amy Schumer season 5 start streaming on Paramount+ on Oct. 20. The remaining three episodes will be released weekly.
