The Herricks Players proudly announce their upcoming production of the beloved musical Annie Get Your Gun, set to captivate audiences starting May 10, 2024. Transporting theatergoers to the vibrant world of the Wild West, the Herricks Players will present the 1999 updated version of the show. Experience classics musical hits like “There’s No Business Like Show Business” and “Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)”.

Annie Get Your Gun celebrates the remarkable life of Annie Oakley, a true American icon whose legendary sharpshooting skills and fearless spirit continue to inspire audiences worldwide. Rough-and-tumble Annie Oakley is the best shot around. A backwoods gal, Annie uses her skill to support her family by selling the game she hunts. When she’s discovered by Buffalo Bill and persuaded to join his Wild West Show, Annie is plucked from obscurity and becomes the toast of Europe. Annie meets her match in Frank Butler, Buffalo Bill’s leading man and star marksman. She falls head over heels for Frank, but soon eclipses him as the main attraction in the show. Her success with a gun makes trouble for Annie’s chance at romance.
Annie Get Your Gun follows the journey of Annie and Frank, revealing their competitive natures as they vie for best shot — and each other’s hearts. This fictionalized version of the life of real-life sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her romance with Frank Butler boasts a score of Irving Berlin gems including There’s No Business Like Show Business, I Got Lost in His Arms, I Got the Sun in the Mornin, Anything You Can Do, and They Say It’s Wonderful. Set against the backdrop of the turn of the 20th century, this musical extravaganza promises to enthrall viewers with its timeless story of courage, determination, and breaking boundaries.

Remarkably, the historical roots of Annie Get Your Gun intertwine with the local community. Rare archival photographs depict the real-life Annie Oakley showcasing her remarkable talents right here in Mineola, NY, in 1922. These captivating images serve as a poignant reminder of the indelible mark left by Annie Oakley on both history and local heritage.

“We are thrilled to bring Annie Get Your Gun to the stage and share Annie Oakley’s extraordinary journey with our community,” remarked Herricks Players’ Founder, Carol Hayes. “Her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination continue to resonate with audiences, reminding us all of the power of perseverance and the limitless possibilities that await when we dare to dream.”

The Herricks Players’ newly renovated theater has even more wheelchair accessible seating now. The students of the Henry Viscardi School, located just blocks away from the theater, are excited to see the show. Viscardi Administrator Lauren Marzo said the students are looking forward to being inspired by Annie Oakley, who, like them, had to overcome many obstacles to become successful. The Viscardi students enjoy seeing every Herricks Players show as part of their Friday Night Recreation Program.
