The Glen Cove City School District proudly announces that three second-grade students from Deasy School have emerged as the first-place regional winners of the Statewide Elementary Mathematics Tournament in the online math program, First In Math.
Arianna Dimitratos and Heavenly Jackson from Nicole Crumlich’s class and Oziel Roca from Meryl Gordon’s class have achieved this prestigious honor, and the district is proud to recognize and celebrate their achievement. Competing against 82 school districts from Nassau, Rockland, and Putnam-Westchester counties, Deasy School secured first place and was honored with a plaque and a $1,000 award.
The 2024 Virtual Regional Tournament competition will focus on the popular 24® Game series featured in First In Math Skill Sets®. These games test fact fluency, automaticity, problem solving, procedural fluency and other critical math skills. As children practice, the games’ simple structure allows learners to engage quickly, seek out higher levels of challenge, and increase confidence in mental-math abilities.
At the Statewide Mathematics Tournament, students will use game cards competitively in a group setting to demonstrate through modeling their conceptual understanding.
The district congratulates Arianna Dimitratos, Heavenly Jackson and Oziel Roca for their outstanding performance in the tournament. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence have been rewarded with an invitation to compete in the NY Statewide Championship Tournament in Albany on June 1, 2024. This marks the second time that Deasy School students have advanced to compete in the Statewide Tournament.
We are thrilled to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of Arianna, Heavenly, and Oziel in the First In Math program,” remarked Dr. Maria Rianna, Superintendent of Schools. “Their achievements highlight their dedication, perseverance, and the high-quality education they are receiving at Deasy School. As they prepare to compete in the upcoming statewide tournament, we extend our warmest wishes for continued success in representing our district.
The district congratulates these students on their success and wishes them the best of luck in the statewide competition. For more information about our schools, please visit our website at www.glencoveschools.org and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/glencovecityschools
