In late May, the Westbury Fire Department honored four of its members for 50 years of service to the community.
Ex-captain Michael Rice, Ex-Chief Robert Borra, Ex-Chief Robert Price and firefighter Ian Rodgers were honored by current Chief LaShaun L. Carr and the Westbury Fire Department at the Memorial Day Inspection/Parade.
Ex- Captain Michael Rice
Rice joined the department on Nov. 3, 1974. He served as the Second Lieutenant and Captain from 1994 through 1998. Rice was elected to serve as secretary and treasurer of Hose Company #2 in 1998 and he was elected as department corresponding secretary in 2004. He still holds both positions. He served as the Senior Fire Inspector for the department and currently serves as Assistant Chief Safety Officer. Rice received the Fireman of the Year award in 2006.
Ex-Chief Robert Borra
Borra joined the department and Hose Company #2 on Nov. 3, 1974. He served as the Second and First Lieutenant and captain. Borra was elected as Second Assistant Chief in 1987, First Assistant Chief in 1990 and went on to serve as Chief of Department from 1992 through 1995. Borra served on numerous company committees and presently serves as the department’s Chief Safety Officer. Borra received the Fireman of the Year award in 2006.
Ex-Chief Robert Price
Price joined the department on March 31, 1974 and served Hose Company #1 as clerk, Second and First Lieutenant and Captain. Price also served as Second Lieutenant in the Rescue Squad in 1982. Price was elected to the position of Second Assistant Chief in 1990, First Assistant Chief in 1992 and was elected Chief of Department in 1995 through 1998. Price also served as the department’s Senior Fire Inspector.
Firefighter Ian Rogers
Rogers joined the department on Dec. 1, 1974. He served as Second Lieutenant in 1988 and a company driver qualified on department ambulances. He serves on multiple committees within the department.
