Fresh off of her graduation from Paul D. Schreiber High School, Port Washington resident Hannah Rosenberg is heading to Copenhagen for her second year at the Royal Danish Ballet Summer School.
The Royal Danish Ballet summer intensive is held at the Royal Danish Theatre. Students have the opportunity to learn the Royal Danish Ballet’s repertoire, including its world-famous, unique Bournonville tradition. The faculty is composed of teachers and ballet masters from the Royal Danish Ballet and School, as well as internationally renowned teachers and pianists who bring their expertise to Copenhagen. The highly selective course is open to young dancers who train professionally or who have already started their dance careers.
Rosenberg began her ballet training at Berest Dance in Port Washington when she was 10 years old, reaching their highest level of training by the time she reached the eighth grade.
Beginning her freshman year of high school, Rosenberg left school 15 minutes early each day to take the LIRR into the city for ballet classes. She danced after school and on weekends at the Joffrey Ballet School for two years before beginning pre-professional training at Manhattan Youth Ballet (MYB) in 2022. At MYB, Rosenberg trained with world-class New York City Ballet dancers Daniel Ulbricht, Ashley Bouder, Brittany Pollack, and Deborah Wingert, among others.
Rosenberg participated in summer ballet programs at Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, and the Kaatsbaan Ballet Intensive before she began training at the Royal Danish Ballet Summer School in the summer of 2023.
Rosenberg will be attending Barnard College at Columbia University in the fall of 2024. She intends to major in Political Science and minor in Dance. Rosenberg says she will audition for the Columbia Ballet Collaborative and the Columbia University Ballet Ensemble.
When home in Port Washington, Rosenberg continues to dance at Berest Dance, joining their adult open classes whenever possible.
“My love for ballet started here,” she said. “Berest will always feel like home.”
