Local Girl Scout Audrey Chen presented her Gold Award project, “Paws for a Cause.” The Girl Scout’s Gold Award is given to role models in their community who aim to fix a problem and make lasting change.
At the Glen Cove Senior Center, Chen spoke about the benefits of senior citizens adopting rescue dogs. While rescue dogs are given safe homes, senior citizens often feel comforted and enriched by their pets. Her advocacy project aims to raise awareness and encourage seniors to adopt.
“As I continue to share my home with my wonderful rescue dog Teddy, I am reminded every day how wonderful a privilege it is to adopt a pet and give them the loving forever home they
deserve,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I’m so proud of Audrey for dedicating herself to the cause of pet adoption, and it was wonderful to meet her at the Glen Cove Senior Center and learn more about her Gold Award project.”
