Levittown

DWI

The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Levittown woman for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law) on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 12:04 a.m. in Levittown.

According to police, officers responded to Flamingo Road for a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had struck an unoccupied parked vehicle. The investigation revealed the driver, defendant Jessica Lemus, 21, had slurred speech and watery eyes, was unsteady on her feet and had an odor of alcohol emanating from her breath. A Standardized Field Sobriety Test resulted in positive results and defendant Jessica Lemus was arrested without incident. No injuries were reported at the scene. In the vehicle, two 15-year-old male juvenile passengers were released into the custody of a family member who responded to the scene.

Defendant Jessica Lemus is charged with two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under the Leandra’s Law, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two counts of Driving While Intoxicated and Operating a Motor Vehicle by an Unlicensed Driver.

Hempstead

Fatal Vehicular Accident

The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad is investigating a Fatal Vehicular Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Saturday, Aug. 10,  at 4:08 p.m. in Hempstead.

According to detectives, while attempting to cross in the vicinity of 33 Front St., from the south side to the north side, a male pedestrian was struck by a 2004 Honda traveling westbound on Front Street. The male, 27, suffered trauma to his head and body. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced at 8:32 p.m. by a hospital physician.

The female operator, 20, remained at the scene. The vehicle was brake and safety checked. The investigation is ongoing.

Elmont

Assault

Nassau County Police Department Fifth Squad Detectives report the arrest of an Elmont man for an Assault that occurred on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 4:23 p.m. in Elmont.

According to detectives, officers responded to a 911 call for a male needing medical assistance. Upon arrival, officers determined the male, 28, needed medical assistance and attempted to escort him from his bedroom. The male punched the officer on the left side of his face, causing swelling, a headache and substantial pain. Officers went to place the subject in custody and he tensed up his body, tucked his arms under his chest and actively pulled his arms away from the officers. A subject was subdued, and Hurguens Jasmin, 28, of Elmont, was arrested.

A dagger was observed inside Jasmin’s apartment. A second officer suffered lacerations, substantial pain and bleeding to his left hand and right elbow. Both officers were transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Defendant Jasmin is charged with two counts of Assault in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree and Resisting Arrest.

North Bellmore

Fatal Vehicular Accident

The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Monday, Aug. 12, at 2:16 p.m. in North Bellmore.

According to detectives, a 71-year-old male pedestrian was crossing Newbridge Road eastbound in the vicinity of Frisch Place when he was struck by a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee being operated by a 65-year-old male heading northbound on Newbridge Road. As a result of the collision, the pedestrian suffered severe head trauma and was transported to a local hospital, where a hospital physician pronounced him dead. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.

Lakeview 

Arrest

Nassau County Police Department Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a male juvenile for Criminal Possession of a Weapon for an incident that occurred on Monday, Aug. 12, at 10:10 p.m. in Lakeview.

According to detectives, Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team (CIRRT) Officers were on routine patrol when they observed a black 2008 Nissan Altima traveling northbound on Woodfield Road at a high rate of speed. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.

After a police investigation, a loaded .380 Ruger handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, a male juvenile, 17, was placed under arrest without further incident.

The Juvenile is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm and multiple VTL violations.

Hicksville

Imitation Pistol

Nassau County Police Department Second Squad reports the arrest of a 17-year-old male juvenile for Menacing on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 12:50 a.m. in Hicksville.

According to detectives, a female victim was approached by a 17-year-old juvenile defendant at a residence, who brandished what appeared to be a firearm and threatened the victim. The 17-year-old juvenile defendant left the scene but was apprehended by police a short time later without incident. An imitation pistol-BB gun was used in the commission of the crime and has been recovered.

The 17-year-old juvenile defendant is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, and Menacing 2nd Degree.

Baldwin

Fatal Vehicular Accident 

The Nassau County Police Department First Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 11:24 p.m. in Baldwin.

According to detectives, a 49-year-old male was operating a 2013 Hyundai Tuscon eastbound on Grand Terrace Avenue when his vehicle left the roadway, striking a fence and then a home located at 917 Grand Terrace Ave., causing exterior damage. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a hospital physician. The residence was occupied at the time of the incident, but no injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.

Westbury

DWI

The Nassau County Police Department Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Wantagh man for a DWI that occurred on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 2:40 a.m. in Westbury.

According to Police, a 21-year-old male operating a 2019 Honda Civic was involved in a collision into a vacant building located at 1137 Old Country Rd. Upon arrival, Officers removed the driver, defendant Aidan Schwartz, from the vehicle to ensure his safety and arrested him for Driving While Intoxicated and driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle.

The building sustained extensive damage, and the Town of North Hempstead Building Department and PSEG responded to the scene. The defendant was transported to a local area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Defendant Schwartz is charged with DWI and multiple VTL violations. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
