The Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department welcomed two new pumper fire trucks to its fleet last month as part of effort to improve service and replace aging vehicles,
“The two new pumper trucks will be a game-changer for our department,” said Fire Chief Phil Grella.
Grella said the new trucks have modern features that will improve the department’s efficiency. These improvements will help firefighters in their daily work with the community.
“They’ll provide improved water pressure, better engine performance, and updated safety features, allowing our firefighters to respond more effectively to fires and emergencies,” he said.
Grella said the department has a full fleet of eight vehicles, many of which have been with the department for decades.
“Two of our pumpers are over 30 years old, and another is 27,” he said.
The two new trucks will be an asset to the department, and Grella said that the department is considering additional upgrades in the future.
“Our Rescue truck is 26, so we’re looking to upgrade these vehicles in the future,” he said.
Mayor Pam Panzenbeck, Deputy Mayor Donna McNaughton, and City Council Members Grady Farnan, Michael Ktistakis, Kevin Maccarone, and Marsha Silverman helped the department welcome the new vehicles.
“These new fire trucks are a critical investment in the safety of our residents,” Panzenbeck said in a press release.
“We are deeply grateful to our dedicated volunteer firefighters, and it is our responsibility to ensure they have the best equipment available to protect our community,” she said.
Grella said the department is looking for additional improvements to ensure the best quality service.
“Right now, we’re exploring updates to our communication systems, training facilities and equipment,” he said. “Our goal is to provide the best possible service to our community.”
“We’re always looking for ways to improve,” he said.
